Abby Berns, MPH is a Senior Public Health Epidemiologist in the Center for Acute Infectious Disease Epidemiology at the Rhode Island Department of Health. She received a Masters of Public Health in Epidemiology from Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health and a Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences from Smith College. Abby has fifteen years' experience in infectious disease, working at the state and local levels as well as in national advocacy. Abby has been conducting influenza surveillance at RIDOH since 2014 and is also responsible for vaccine-preventable diseases, mpox, and Legionnaire’s disease. She was the first epidemiologist in Rhode Island to work on COVID-19 in 2020.

• Compare influenza and RSV activity in the current surveillance season with that of previous seasons
• Choose which surveillance system to query to answer a given surveillance question
